DECA is an international student organization that prepares future leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other professional areas through case competitions and networking events throughout the year.
Our mission is to help students develop themselves professionally, provide the opportunities for them to demonstrate their growth, and ensure they are able to differentiate themselves as young professionals.
"Attending DECA supplemented my professional development by providing me with a hands-on learning environment where I could obtain valuable skills that go beyond those that are learned in the classroom."
"Joining DECA is a great way to meet new people and develop long lasting friendships. Competing at events like DECA are so important to not only gain real life skills such as public speaking, critical thinking and time management but also allows you to get out of your comfort zone and really challenge yourself."

What is DECA U?
DECA U is a case-based competition that gives post-secondary students the opportunity to develop their professional skills beyond the classroom. Delegates are presented with a business problem in a variety of categories and challenged to present a solution within a specified time period. Students can participate individually or in teams and are mentored by peers in weekly training sessions.
Next, delegates are given the opportunity to attend various competitions throughout the year. In January, chapters from all over the country participate at the DECA U Ontario Provincial case competition. After Provincials, some competitors get a chance to compete at The International Career Development (ICDC) Conference. This is held in Georgia, USA for spring 2020. In spring 2019, DECA U Guelph sent 8 delegates winning 17 awards and medals at ICDC!
What can DECA offer you?
Joining DECA gives you the opportunity to expand your network with not only industry professionals, but also your peers. Throughout the year you will meet people within your chapter and all over Ontario with similar interests. One of the best things about DECA is that you get to open up, become more confident and gain new friendships!
As delegates you will be pushed to your limits by experiencing real-world business scenarios and challenged to find solutions. Each case is different and offers the opportunity to apply your own creative solution. Throughout the semester there will be plenty of opportunities prepare and develop your skills for provincials.
DECA allows students to test the presentation, problem solving and critical thinking skills ALL students need in an interview setting. For example, each case asks delegates to solve a company problem (like a job description) and present their solutions to an industry expert (like selling your skills to an employer). These skills empower students to feel confident walking into job interviews for any industry.
