My Provincials Story

December 3, 2016

DECA Provincials was one of the most exciting times in all my years at the university. I not only got to compete against other universities, but the feeling of representing the University of Guelph was surreal.

During the days leading up to the weekend, I went to every training session to practice. When the day finally came, I was very nervous as it was my first provincial competition… ever.  I remember climbing on the bus not knowing how my hotel would look or how many students were going to be there from other universities. On the way to Toronto, I made new friends on the bus and practiced Guelph spirit chants for when we needed to use them.

When I finally got there, it seemed a little chaotic but well organized at the same time. We quickly got our room key and I settled in with my new roommates for the weekend. That evening there was a huge formal dinner at the hotel.  The next day the competition began and I was very nervous! I got a lot of experience, as well as a bunch of free DECA swag!

The next day there were a few talks from industry leaders along with a networking event. We finally had our closing ceremony and headed back to Guelph. Provincials was an amazing experience and I can’t wait for DECA provincials 2017!
